It is no secret that COVID-19 has affected our world a tremendous amount. From our population, to the economy, to air quality, the impacts of this dastardly virus are widespread.
There are many positive effects on the environment as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, but the most important thing to remember is that most of these changes are short-term. Some of these short-term changes have been lowered air pollution and carbon outputs, less product waste, and a reduction in industrial emissions.
At first glance, these changes seem good, like a step forward for conserving our Earth. But, the reality of the situation is that after quarantine, we will take several steps backward. Companies will most likely speed up production to make up for the time and money lost. As well as this, air quality, litter, and carbon emissions will all likely revert to their pre-Coronavirus state.
An ever-increasing growing human population is also part of the problem, as we are encroaching on forests, reserves, and wetlands. This is bringing us closer into contact with wild animals and the transmission of viruses is going to become much more probable as we continue to overpopulate the Earth.
This pandemic is just a taste of things to come.
