Statistics in California

As an organization based in California, we love to provide you with the most relevant, accurate information from several reliable sources, putting it in perspective how big of an issue littering is, in one state alone.

- The Clean SD (San Diego) program has had clean up crews remove over 4,000 tons of trash since 2017. This includes mattresses, box springs, shopping carts, tires, appliances, plastic, and so much more. Keep in mind, this is only one city in all of the United States!

- California is currently paying around $428 million every single year in costs to stop and clean up litter.

- Recent studies have revealed that only 9% of the billions of tons of plastic produced over the last decades have been recycled.

- One bills that combats single-use products in California is the  Assembly Bill 1080. If this bill is passed, as it is still pending, it will be a very important step for our state.

- There have been 400 Adopt-A-Highway volunteer groups/organizations in both Imperial Valley and San Diego. Since it began in 1989, their volunteers have disposed of litter on over 15,000 miles of roadway.
